Education refers to the attainment of knowledge through academic and scholastic pursuits. It includes all that can help one attain enlightenment and empowerment. Education gives one the knowledge and skills to work with excellence. It helps in one's all round physical, mental and intellectual growth and development. One learns a great deal about life through education. It is imperative that children and youth are educated so that they can live productive lives and help in the progress of society and nation, at large. In the words of J.F. Kennedy, the former President of USA: "The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and disseminations of truth." The spread of education in India becomes all the more relevant with two-thirds of her population residing in the rural areas. The expansion of education in such areas is essential to bring higher education within the reach of the less privileged and the needy so that they could reap its maximum benefits.
Nestled in the foothills of Shivalik range of Western Himalayas, away from the hustle and bustle of the urban areas, the Govt. Degree College Rey was announced by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 9th September 2015 to make higher education accessible to the rural masses. Consequently, the notification for the functioning of new college was issued by the department of higher education on 30th September 2015, vide Letter No. EDN-A Ka(1)5/2012. Under RUSA, the first session for Arts & Commerce streams started from session 2016-17.
Govt. Degree College Rey is situated at Village Rey (Khas), about 18 km away from Pong dam and 22 km from tehsil headquarter, Fatehpur, (the doorway to Himachal Pradesh from Talwara, Punjab). The foundation stone of college building was laid by Hon'ble Chief Minister on 13th of January 2017. As of now, the classes are being run at Govt. Middle & Primary School, Rey (Khas). Land measuring 02-92-88 hectare has been transferred in the name of the Department of Higher Education and administrative approval of Rupees 12,58,95000 to construct College building has been given by present Govt. It is expected that construction work of the new College building will start soon.
